AMRITSAR: All the 17 Punjabi youth who had been languishing in the various jails of United Arab Emirates(UAE)  countries including Dubai are arriving home today.
After landing in Delhi they have left for Amritsar where they woudl be paying obeisance at the Golden Temple before they go to their homes free. They all including one from Haryana were arrested and sentenced to death for the killing a Pakistan national identified as Misri Khan in a brawl in UAE.

They were all to to be hanged till death but an NRI hotelier and philanthropist SP Singh Oberoi used a law in UAE under which if the families who are aggrieved are paid 'blood money' they can forgive the killers. The same was done and Pakistani Rs.8 crores was paid to the family and thus the youths were brought him due to the efforts of Oberio. He said he just went to see these youth and could not hold his tears as they requested him to do something as they would be hanged and he arranged the money from his own pockets and help from friends.

The youth belongs to Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Sangrur, Jalandhar and Ludhiana districts. The families had been keeping the fingers cross and had been waiting for their loved ones to arrive home as they had earlier left all their hopes when various legal problems had come in the way for their release. The youth in group would be travelling from Delhi to Amritsar by road and on arriving here they would directly pay the visit to the religious shrine in a thank-giving to the almighty, said Oberoi.

The 16 Punjabi men are Sukhjinder Singh, Sukhjot Singh, Ram Singh, Arvinder Singh, Baljeet Singh, Daljeet Singh, Dharampal Singh, Satgur Singh, Satnam Singh, Kashmir Singh, Suban Singh, Kulvinder Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Sukhjinder Singh, Namjyot Singh, Amrik Singh and Harjinder Singh; Taranjit Singh hails from Haryana. They had all gone to the UAE for labour jobs.

“It’s a rebirth for us. We thank all those who contributed to our release. The support of the Indian authorities and Oberoi has enabled us to walk free. Our families would never have been able to pay thehuge amount of blood money,” said one of the released men.
